FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQs)

Is there really no charge for your resources and online trainings?

How is this possible?

Ab and Nancy Nicholas are the people who make possible the work of the Samaritan Family Wellness Foundation, which is the foundation that funds the creation and distribution of all of the Wellness Compass and Living Compass resources. It is their generosity that allows us to make everything we do available to you at little or no cost.

How can I thank the Nicholas family for their generosity?

If you send a note to our mailbox we will make sure they get it.

Our mailing address is:

Can we charge if we offer your resources in our community?

We recognize that many people who offer our resources in the broader community need a sustainable way to do that. We do not control whether or how much a person may charge the public to lead groups, provide learning opportunities, or training.  That is up to you.

How closely do I need to stick to the materials?

Holly Hughes Stoner, who has written most of our facilitation guides, is a former educator and knows that many teachers read through their teachers’ guides at the start of the year, and then put them back on the shelf. They then go on and teach the material in the way that best suits their class, referring back to the guides on occasion as needed.  That is how we think of our facilitator guides, something you can refer to if you have questions, but nothing you are wedded to.  Please think about the people you are serving, and adjust the materials to suit their needs.

What is the difference between the Wellness Circles and the Wellness Notebooks?

The Wellness Circle program is written as a six-week facilitated group concentrating on one area of wellness and empowering people to make incremental changes. Wellness Circles are offered for Adults, Parents, and Teens.

The Wellness Notebooks, for Parents and Teens, focus on exploring the eight areas of wellness, and then considering how users might create more wellness for themselves, or their families, by changing some of their current habits.

Can I alter the resources to better fit the needs and time constraints of my group?

Yes! You know your group’s needs, comfort level, and background. You can certainly adjust the resources to better fit the needs of your program.

Is there anyone I can speak to to ask questions and brainstorm with about my ideas for using the Wellness Compass materials?

Someone who can give me some direction?

Yes. Carolyn Karl (carolyn@wellnesscompass.org) loves talking with people, and is available to answer questions and brainstorm with you. She is quite imaginative and knows all of our resources well, so can readily help you imagine how you might match our resources to your needs.
